Lukewarm air in heating mode, ice that never clears from the outdoor coil, a system stuck in emergency heat, a reversing valve that will not shift between heating and cooling, short cycling, or an electric bill that doubled overnight because the auxiliary strips are running constantly.

We test the defrost board and sensor, the reversing valve and its solenoid, the outdoor thermostat and staging, the auxiliary heat strips and sequencers, refrigerant charge in both modes, and the thermostat configuration — which is wrong more often than anyone expects on heat pump systems.

Why is ice building up on my heat pump in winter?
A light frost that clears during the defrost cycle is normal. Solid ice that never melts means the defrost cycle is not running — usually a failed defrost board or sensor, or a reversing valve that will not shift. Do not chip the ice off; call us before the coil is damaged.
Why is my heat pump blowing cool air on heat mode?
Heat pump supply air is naturally cooler than gas furnace air — around 90–100°F rather than 130°. That feels lukewarm but is normal. If it is genuinely cold, the reversing valve, charge or defrost control is the likely fault.
What is emergency heat and why is my bill so high?
Emergency heat bypasses the compressor and runs electric resistance strips only — effective but expensive. If your system is stuck there, something is preventing normal heat pump operation and it needs diagnosis before the next bill arrives.
